Posture

Isaiah 49:25 “But thus says the Lord… For I will contend with him who contends with you, And I will save your children.” (NKJV)

Psalm 35:1-8 “Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help… say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them. For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul. Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.” (KJV).

This was David’s spiritual posture when Saul was after his life. You need to take that posture spiritually. Note however that it is a posture in the spirit. No one should insist that another person should die. You are simply saying to God that if they are coming after your life, then you need God to defend you. It is called self-defence. But Jesus said in Matthew 5:39 “…If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also.” That is where I am going. In the physical your posture must be kindness. If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If they can slap you physically, then turn the other cheek. But I rather stay in a place where they cannot slap me physically.

If they need help, help them. If their children need school fees, give them. Be kind to them. Guess what? The man who came to tell David that Saul and Jonathan had died, did not expect the response he got from David. He thought David would rejoice, but David dealt with him and killed him. Then David sat on the floor and mourned for Saul and Jonathan. In the physical, you maintain kindness to the end.  But anyone that shows up in the spiritual loses their head. That is how it goes. Can you see the connection?

David’s posture in the physical was kindness towards Saul. But in the spiritual, he was fierce towards anyone who was fighting against him. Unfortunately, people think that they need to be mean-spirited. In the physical, they send all sorts of crazy texts to other people and curse them out. No! In the physical, you have to be kind-hearted. In the spiritual, you have to be fierce. That is how it goes. In that way, there is no bitterness in your heart. Your heart is completely free. So, you get rid of bitterness by showing compassion.

Prayer: Father, Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armour; arise and come to my aid, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
