Proverbs 31:17 “She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.” (AMPC, emphasis added).
When you talk about fitness, we are talking about the holistic type of fitness. Not that the person has a pack of muscles, but is mentally deranged, or spiritually dead. Wholistic fitness means you are physically fit,
mentally fit, and spiritually fit. It is because these three components of wholistic fitness affect each other as we see in scriptures. When you are physically fit, it actually affects your mental health, did you know that? It has been discovered by the Australian Ministry of Health that, “People who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional wellbeing, and lower rates of mental illness”. In fact, if you are going through an emotional challenge, just begin to work out, and break the sweat. I can tell you from experience.
I went through a very difficult, dark time some years ago. But guess what I kept doing? I kept running. I kept working out. I kept sweating. I just kept hitting the GYM. And guess what? It affected my mind and my mental health. Although I was not depressed, it was a really dark time, and I had the strength to push it back. And it is because they all affect each other. Another thing I was doing was praying in tongues. So, I will be jogging and praying in tongues. My mind did not have any choice but to align, to be okay. When I am physically strong, I am spiritually strong, my mind must align, in the Name of Jesus. And that is how it is.
Proverbs 4:20-22 “My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.” The Word of God that is spirit and life can give life to your mind and body and can bring healing. Science tells us that the levels of chemicals in the brain such as serotonin, stress hormones, and endorphins, change when you exercise. Exercise promotes the good chemicals and reduces the bad ones.
This is what the Word of God has already revealed. So, when you exercise the good chemicals are promoted, and the bad chemicals are depleted. Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (KJV). Waiting upon the Lord is a spiritual activity, but it renews your strength, even your physical strength.
Prayer: Father, empower me to attain and sustain holistic fitness this season and beyond, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen!
