The Reason

Genesis 2:^15-17 “The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”

Limits are essential to life. If you look at creation, you will see that it speaks to us consistently about this truth. For instance, did you know that more than eighty percent of the ocean has not been explored, mapped, or reached by man? In fact, some scientists argue that man has only been able to explore five percent of the ocean. The ocean is within reach, yet we have not exhausted it. What ocean is within your reach that you have only explored five percent of? Scientists also tell us that we use a fraction of the capacity of our brain power. Your brain is within your reach. Scientists tell us that less than one percent of the solar system has been seen by man, talk less of explored.

So, it is less than one percent of the universe that has been explored. And of the seen universe, as minute as it is, only one percent has been explored by man. Where is the arrogance coming from? We are so small, so tiny. Yet, it has pleased God to think upon us. The Psalmist says, what is man that you are mindful of him? The son of man that you visit him (Psalm 8:4, Hebrews 2:6). We are so tiny in the scheme of things. Yet, God loves us and reckons with us. Where is pride coming from? That is why God would say, you are only allowed to be boastful about one thing. He says, let him that boasts, boast that he knows, and he understands me (Jeremiah 9:24). How can you fully know God?

So, if you want to boast, your boast should be that you know God exhaustively, and you understand God. That is to show all of mankind how baseless our boast is. His ways are not our ways. How can anyone understand God? You can love God without understanding Him. For those who have children, many of them do not understand you. If they are honest, they think you are crazy. They do not know why they have to go to bed and stop watching a show at midnight. Your thirteen-year-old does not understand why he or she cannot just take your car for a spin. But you can have a relationship with your children.

They can love you and you can love them, even though they do not fully understand you. You cannot fully understand God, but you can love God. And God says, if you are to boast, boast that you fully know Him. There is therefore no basis for anyone born of a woman to boast. None!
