The Main Thing
Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God.” (ESV, emphasis added).
How do we stay aligned and how do we keep the main thing, the main thing? The answers to these questions we will get from the Words of Jesus Himself. To stay aligned, to stay above discouragement, and to keep the main thing, the main thing. The first thing is We Must Adopt God’s Agenda. The truth is that people usually have an agenda. When people come into your life, they have an agenda. Everyone mostly has an agenda when they come to you or when they are a part of your life. Hitler had an agenda. From Hitler to users, users usually have an agenda. However, I pray that it is God’s agenda that will come to pass in your life. Many are the devices of the hearts of men, I pray that God’s agenda will stand in your life.
So, what is God’s agenda? That is the question on the mind of any serious believer and follower of Jesus. What is God’s agenda really? Jesus at twelve years said, I must be about my Father’s business. I must be about the agenda of heaven. We must be about our Father’s business. God’s agenda is not an economic agenda. There is economics to it, but it is not an economic agenda. God’s agenda is not an entertainment agenda. There is fulfilment and joy in the Holy Ghost, but it is not an entertainment agenda. God’s agenda is not a political agenda. There is ruling and order to it, but it is not a political agenda. God’s agenda is a Kingdom agenda.
God’s agenda for the world is The Kingdom of God. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, God’s agenda, the Father’s business, and the business of The Kingdom must be our preoccupation. Our focus must be razor-sharp on it. God’s Kingdom is not about any particular group or any particular nation. God is not a national or denominational God. God is an international, multi-universe God. And He is building an eternal family of redeemed people from every nation, every tribe, and every tongue. Matthew 24:14 “The Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.” (emphasis added). And this is big!
When we examine the life and the ministry of Jesus, The Kingdom of God is the major theme. The word “kingdom” is used one hundred and fifty-seven times in the New Testament. Of the thirty-eight parables of Jesus, most of them began with Jesus saying something like, “…and the Kingdom of heaven is like …how can I liken the Kingdom of God?” It is all about The Kingdom of God.
Prayer: Father, I accept Your agenda, empower me to play my part, in Jesus Name. Amen!
