His Word
Hebrews 10:23 “Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word]” (AMP)
The first thing to do to grow in faith is, Evaluate The FOUNDATION of Your Faith. The second thing is, Live Your Life TRUSTING God’s Word. God and His Words are inseparable. As you live your life trusting God’s Word, your faith will grow. And as you trust His Word and trust the promises therein, your faith will keep growing. I love new converts and I love to help people find the rhythm of their walk with God, find their place in God, and help them grow in God. One of the questions I get asked by people starting their faith journey is, “Pastor, what can I expect from God?” My answer is, “You can expect from God everything that He has promised.”
Unfortunately, folks get disappointed and become angry at God because they expect God to do things He has not promised to do. What should we expect? Expect all that God has promised. Do not expect what He has not promised. Years ago, a friend was ill and dying. When I heard about it, I ran to his house, and I prayed. I prayed, and prayed, and prayed, and he passed on. We give God all the glory for the people who were dying or were dead that we prayed for, and they came back to life. However, it is not a promise from God that everyone we pray for will come back to life. It was a big lesson for me that day and I wept and wept. Firstly, he was my friend. Secondly, I felt God deceived me. I actually said to God, “You set me up! If You were not going to heal him, why did You allow me to pray?”
The truth is that God did not promise that every single person you and I pray for will come back to life. Why? It is because He has a purpose for everyone that passes. For some people, it is their time. For the people that it is not their time, through intercession to God, you can bring them back. I was angry at God because I felt God disappointed me. Come to think of it, I was expecting from God what He didn’t promise me. I was basing my faith on the fact that when we prayed for Person A, he came back to life. When we prayed for Person B, she came back to life. Therefore, we will pray, and Person C will come back to life. I was basing my faith on testimonies (personal testimonies), not on what God had said.
A friend said one faithful Christian he knew was his mother. He said he prayed and prayed for God to heal her, he even promised to serve God if He healed her. But she passed on and he was upset. The scripture says that God takes righteous people and people do not consider that God has delivered them from the day of trouble. Don’t expect from God what He has not promised.
Prayer: Father, help me live my life trusting in Your unshakable Word, in Jesus Name. Amen!
