The Tradition Box III

‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect’ Rom.12:2

It has to be all about Jesus Christ in every Christian endeavor. This calls for a deliberate attempt to live our lives according to the Word of God and not according to the dictates of tradition. Today you find churches where tradition attempts to limit the move of the Spirit of God. The only thing that must not change in the way a Church does things is their adoration of the person of Jesus Christ, anything else can change. In God’s Favourite House it is all about Jesus. When you get to the place of worship all your affection and attention should be focused on Jesus alone. However, you find places where people now hold onto a method of worship because this is how they have been doing it. Our God loves variety and He reserves the sole authority to move the worship experience in any direction. Ours is to abandon the plan and follow His direction; regardless of whether it fits a certain method or not. Thus, it is not about the method of worship but about the person we are worshipping. When you focus all your attention on the method of worship such that the method becomes more important than the person of worship, you have succeeded in putting God in a box. This is why in a lot of Churches today; God is boxed in, because the method of worship has become more important than the person of Jesus. Whenever the method of worship attains more significance than the person of worship, then tradition has succeeded in restricting the full move of God. People will uproot their entire family from a place of worship just because the Pastor dared to follow the leading of the Spirit to change the way things are being done. It is amazing how tradition can limit people from the greatness that God has planned for them. People want the place of congregational worship to stay in a box of their own preference. Your preference cannot come before God’s leading. When the person of worship is not the focus of worship, then we have boxed God in our worship. It has to always be all about Jesus alone.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, You are the One who knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is to follow You. May I never place my preferences above your leading, in Jesus Name.
