Baggage
‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life’ Prov.13:12.
Baggage is a particularly interesting aspect of life. It is almost impossible to travel without carrying baggage. Some people travel with scarcely any baggage while others especially cannot afford the luxury of traveling light. Sometimes you pack your bags yourself and at other times people pack for you. The reality of the life we live is not far from this. There are a lot of things we are carrying in our lives that we really do not need to carry. Yet there are some baggages that are important. So baggage is not necessarily evil or bad. For instance a pregnant woman is carrying a baggage. However, there are some baggages that we do not need to carry. One area where you find many people carrying a lot of baggage is in the area of unfulfilled expectations. There are talents in this nation, people who can play better than the people on the national team. People who know they should be exploring their gifts but have had to shelf them to survive. So they move around daily with the baggage of unfulfilled expectation. You start a project with fantastic ideas for implementation but somehow all of those expectations get dashed. The more unfulfilled expectations we have, the more the baggage we have to carry. You know you are carrying a baggage of unfulfilled expectation when you begin to see everything through the filter of that unfulfilled expectation. For instance a lady whose expectations have been dashed in the area of marriage goes around suspicious of every man that approaches her. Statements like ‘All men are liars’ are proof of baggage. All men are not liars. You need to drop that baggage so that you can move on with your life. You are carrying a baggage of unfufilled expectations. ‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life’ Prov.13:12. God knows what it is to have your hopes dashed but He is saying that is not the end of the world. It is only in God that your expectations, and mine, can be fulfilled.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, it is comforting to know that You know every challenge that I face. I lay down my expectations both fulfilled and unfulfilled at Your feet. Glorify Your Name, in Jesus Name
