The Comforter II
‘But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me’ John 15:26
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Christ. No wonder the Bible says, ‘Christ in you the hope of glory’. The Holy Spirit is not different from Jesus Christ. Jesus says ‘I and the Father are one’. He says ‘I am going but I am leaving another Comforter, I am not going to leave you like orphans. I am going to come and stay with you’. So who is the Comforter? Jesus. Which means that everything Jesus was to the disciples when He walked with them side by side, the Holy Spirit is to us today. When they did not have food, the disciples were not scared. They just went to Jesus. He took the five loaves and two fish they had in their hands and multiplied it. When we find ourselves in a fix, the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Spirit of Christ is present. The same way Peter could go to meet Jesus sleeping in the boat and say deal with this storm for us. We can speak to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to silence the storm for us. The same way Jesus healed the mother in-law of Peter, the Holy Spirit can heal and will heal everyone in our lives. The same way the disciples when in the company of Jesus could enter the town confidently. The same way when we walk into our offices we should walk in with confidence because our very big God is right by our side. When you walk in the reality of the fact that Jesus is walking with you, going to your office with you, talking to your client with you, facing your enemies with you, there suddenly is no fear. Walking in the reality of having the Spirit of Christ makes you fearless. People might think that you are arrogant, but the truth is that they cannot see what you can see. Everything Jesus was to the disciples when He was walking on earth, the Holy Spirit is to us today. It is important for every believer to know how the Holy Spirit performs His role as the Comforter today. If we know how He works today we are able to maximize the benefit of having the Comforter with us. He provides the ministry of the Comforter by teaching us, acting on our behalf, giving us inner strength, by giving us gifts and by being our companion.
Prayer [song]: Holy Spirit, thou are welcome in this place. Holy Spirit, thou are welcome in this place. Omnipotent Father of mercy and grace, thou art welcome in this place, in Jesus Name.
