Declare War on Sin
‘Think of all the hostility He endured from sinful people;then you won’t become weary and give up’. Heb.12:3
Resisting sin is a daily assignment. Paul gives us a tip that is sure to work every time. Keep the image of Christ and His sacrifice before you constantly and sin will lose its power over you. The image of Jesus on the cross is sure to cure every taste for sin and crush it every time it surfaces [Isa.53:6]. The reason why a lot of us seem to be battling one particular sin over and over again is because we have lost sight of Jesus. David kept God in view and never again committed adultery. Call to remembrance habitually the fact that because of your sins and mine, Jesus had to suffer abandonment and you will not want to sin again. What is it that you cannot afford to do without, and then imagine that thing or person abandoning you. Up until this point [in my personal study], I had not seen Jesus refer to the Father as ‘My God’. He stood by the tomb of Lazarus and said ‘Father’. When the disciples asked to be taught how to pray, He said ‘when you pray, say our Father’. Jesus said to Peter at the garden of Gethsemane, ‘I can tell My Father and He will send twelve legions of angels’. Jesus always called to Him as Father. However, at this point the role of the God changed from being Father, compassionate progenitor, to God the Judge. God will judge sin; Jesus had to face judgment for your sins and my sins. How then should we relate with sin? Paul says ‘Think of all the hostility He endured’ and resist sin with all that is in you by the power of the Holy Spirit. You cannot afford to go along with business as usual when your clothes have just been smeared with mud. Your instant reaction is to clean up and change those cloths. God expects the same reaction. You must guard against becoming accustomed to sin such that you become numb to sin. The Father turned His back and Jesus knew instantly, we must work hard to achieve the same in our walk with God.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to stay sensitive to You and Your convictions about sin. I declare war on sin in my life and I choose God’s righteousness, in Jesus Name.
