How to be Spiritually Rich VIII
‘…Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more’ Matt.25:20b
Lesson 6: Willingness to take spiritual risks. Spiritually rich people are not afraid to take risks for Jesus. Meanwhile spiritually poor people are soaked in fear. The spiritually rich servant immediately decided to trade with the talents the Master had given to him. If you have done any form of trading or business you would attest that it is risky. Even if you have done all your market research and there seems to be a market for it, policies can change. Yet the financially rich people know how to take risks and so have very high risk taking threshold. The people that are not financially rich have low risk-taking threshold. If they loose a small amount of money they begin to have sleepless nights. The people that are really financially rich may have lost $1Million but they are thinking of how to make another million. Spiritually rich people take risks. Peter for instance, in the boat with the other disciples, saw Jesus walking on water said ‘Jesus can I come?’ That is taking a spiritual risk. And Peter stepped out and began to walk on the water. Thomas or Bartholomew could have grumbled ‘why must you want to walk on water? Let Jesus come into the boat and let’s go’. Think about it, is it really necessary to walk on water? Not walking on water does not mean you will not make heaven. So it is not necessary to walk on water. There are things that you will do for God that the average person would think that you are crazy. But it is the spiritual wealth in you that makes you take that risk for God. For your marriage to be rich, you must take certain risks. Remembering the risk you took before you got married helps you take the necessary risks because the truth is that it is the same person still. Love is a risk and most times it does not make sense. The problem is many of us don’t take risks anymore for our spouses; we don’t go the extra mile. Spiritually rich people take risks. They are excited about gaining. The spiritually poor people are afraid of loosing. ‘…our beloved Barnabas and Paul, who have risked their lives for the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ’ Acts 15:25b-26.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace to take risks for You and to trust You completely regardless of the outcome, in Jesus Name.
