All By Himself

Ex.15:11 “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” (KJV).

1 Kings 18 [please read] is the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. Elijah challenged them to a contest of gods on Mount Carmel. He said, ‘the God, that answers by fire let him be God’. So, the prophets of Baal set up their own altar and were doing their rituals to invoke their God. In 1 Kings 18:27About noontime Elijah began mocking them. “You’ll have to shout louder,” he scoffed, “for surely he is a god! Perhaps he is daydreaming, or is relieving himself. Or maybe he is away on a trip, or is asleep and needs to be wakened!” But the God that we serve neither slumbers nor sleeps. Psalm 121:4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.” There is no use in serving a god that is not available, he is either alive or dead.

A Ghanaian man shared a story about a time when he went to visit his parents and they all travelled to their hometown. When they arrived, they needed to use the restroom and there were not enough restrooms. So, he found a corner outside to relieve himself. He said while he was doing his business, the villagers were shouting. And when he finished his business, he went to them to find out what the problem was. And they said, ‘That stone you are urinating on is our god and you just urinated all over on our god’. He said he left there thinking, how come their god cannot even say, ‘excuse me, you are urinating on me’. How can they serve a god that someone else can pee on?’ Why do you have a god that cannot fight for himself? Why do you have to fight on behalf of your god? Why do you have to kill anybody on behalf of your god? Why? Jehovah sits in the heavens, and He can bring down anyone He chooses to. He is God all by Himself.

The villagers insisted that what he did was an abomination, and he would die in seven days. He told them that he was not going to die in seven days in Jesus Name, it just was not going to happen. And in seven days he did not die because he serves the King of all gods – the King of kings. The point is, if God is worthy of being served [because He is] then we have to experience God as God, not as a figment of our imagination. If God is God, then we should expect Him to be God. If God is God, then we should expect Him to do what God can do. If God is God, then we should expect Him to keep His Word; He does and even surpasses our expectations. God is committed to answering our prayers. Ps.91:15When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honour them.” This is God stating His commitment to answering prayers. Luke 11:9And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” God says, keep on asking and do not stop because He is committed to answering your prayers.

Prayer [song]: Indescribable, uncontainable; You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name. You are amazing, God! All-powerful, untameable; Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim, You are amazing, God!
