Inspite Of Dysfunction I

‘The king of Aram had great admiration for Naaman, the commander of his army, because through him the Lord had given Aram great victories. But though Naaman was a mighty warrior, he suffered from leprosy’ 2 Kings 5:1

We must learn to function inspite of dysfunction, challenges, and everything that life throws at us. Naaman was a leper but even leprosy did not stop him from deploying and releasing his gift and becoming the general of a nation. For a nation whose king is not a warring king, the general becomes practically the number one person. Some nations have kings who are warring kings like David but in some nations the kings are not warring kings like in this case. So Naaman was occupying practically the number one position. The king had to go with him everywhere that is significant. The king of Aram went with Naaman to the place of his worship and everywhere he needs to go just to show that he has the backing of his general. Naaman could have spent his life sulking and focusing all his energy on lamenting about the leprosy and how it was limiting him from fulfilling destiny. Challenges or no challenges you will fulfill destiny in the Name of Jesus, just make up your mind. Naaman could have given the excuse many people give today. God knows my heart and if only God will heal this leprosy [headache, stomach pain, malaria, lack] then and only then will I be able to function as I ought. Yet God is saying in spite of the leprosy you have to become a general. It is the ability to function in spite of your dysfunction that sets you apart. It wasn’t only Naaman that had the dysfunction, even the maid had a dysfunction. She was captured from a nation that claimed there is a God. Imagine being a child brought up to believe that there is a living God and then having to suffer the pains of slavery. She was not just a slave; she was a slave to people who did not know God. Shouldn’t you be angry with God? Shouldn’t she say “I refuse to talk about my God? ‘How shall we sing the LORD’s song in a strange land?Ps.137:4. You cannot refuse to evangelize for fear of people ridiculing you for preaching about a God who has left you in pain. Know this without any doubt; your destiny is greater than your dysfunction. And you will prosper in spite of that dysfunction.

Prayer: ‘Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; …even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!’ Hab.3:17-18.
