Be The Peacemaker!

‘Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us’ Rom.5:1.

To connect us with God, there is only one avenue and that is the person of Jesus. Once the vertical peace is sorted out, God expects us to pursue horizontal peace, which is peace between you and the people around you. ‘Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord’ Heb.12:14. Holiness means to follow peace with God. This scripture is saying sort out your vertical and then sort out your horizontal peace. If you do not sort out your vertical peace and you do not sort out your horizontal peace then forget about heaven. Now think about your relationships, your marriage relationships for example, who is the peacemaker? There is usually one person, at least hopefully, that is the peacemaker in every marriage. When there is trouble that is the person who will first apologize. Who is that person? Whoever that person is, that is the child of God because the Bible says, ‘blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God’. Yet I am often baffled when I see peacemakers, children of God frustrated about making peace. Why should you be frustrated about being a child of God? I have had to counsel couples where both the man and the woman claim to be the peacemaker in their home. They claim to be the first to apologize when things go wrong and I usually encourage them to continue in their efforts to make peace reign in their homes. But my question is if they are both peacemakers then why is there a problem? The truth is that in marriage it usually takes one peacemaker that is unrelenting to make the marriage work. There should be two peacemakers if you are both believers but usually because we are on different levels of maturity, there should be at least one peacemaker. And that person is the one who is more spiritually mature, regardless of the number of scripture the other person can quote. It is the more spiritually mature person that is the peacemaker.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, because You live in me, help me to make the pursuit of peace priority in all that concerns me, in Jesus Name.
