Pray!
2 Chronicles 20:6 “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.” (NIV, emphasis added).
When we look at this passage of Scripture, it seems Jehoshaphat is reminding God of who He is. But actually, Jehoshaphat was reminding himself about who God is by telling God who He is. That is what is going on here. So, you remind yourself of who God is. 2 Chronicles 20:6 “Are you not the God who is in heaven? Are you not The One who rules over all the kingdoms of the nations? Are you not The One whose Power and might are in His hand? Are you not The One that no one can withstand?” (NIV paraphrased, emphasis added). Are you not The One who speaks, and it is established? Are you not the one? When you start by saying, “Are you not?”, you are not reminding God, rather you are elevating your own consciousness to who He is.
Some people have what is called the goldfish memory, they forget. God has done amazing things for them, but they forget. Whenever there is trouble, it is as if they are starting from ground zero every time. If you have a walk with God, and every time you have trouble, you cannot leverage on the faithfulness of God and say to God, “Are You not The One who parted the Red Sea?” That is why God would say to the children of Israel, “Raise a memorial, speak to your children, tell them this is what the God of their fathers did. This is what He did and how He rescued you.” It is so that when your children have problems, they are not starting from ground zero. They can call on the memory of the faithfulness of the God of their fathers.
I pray that you will train your children and tell them the faithfulness of God in your life. So that they can say, “The God of my father did this and that” and they can stand on your shoulder when it is time for battle. That is what Jehoshaphat did here. “Are you not?” A lot of people have a goldfish memory. In other words, God has done amazing things in your life in the past. But as soon as there is a problem, they forget everything God has done. Some people begin to talk as if they are crazy saying things like, “God, how can You abandon me? I have prayed and fasted. I did it for You. How can you let this happen to me?” No! The King of Judah, that is Jehoshaphat, is teaching us how to engage. “Are you not?” Be like David when he was confronted with Goliath and say, “When the lion came and the bear came, I killed them because God strengthened me. This uncircumcised Philistine is going down in Jesus Name!”
Prayer (song): Yahweh, Yahweh, Yahweh, Yahweh, Yahweh, Yahweh, I will not forget You all my days, in every situation You have never failed… Amen!
