For Your Good I

‘They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do’ 2 Cor.8:5

Prioritizing God is the best thing you can do for yourself whether you are married or single. Make God your desire and then let Him be the one to fulfill your desires. Are you single and sexually active, I have a question for you. Can you let sex go in pursuit of Christ Jesus? Can you do that for your sake, for the sake of your future spouse, and your destiny? Is that too much to ask you to do? Definitely not! Like some said, “Even in those moments when God is all that you have, you will find that he is all that you need”. In the moments where you think you have abandoned everything and God is all that you have and are following. You will suddenly discover that God is all that you actually need and He is more than enough for you. Even if you are married, there may be seasons where perhaps your spouse is ill for a prolonged period of time. Or business takes him/her out of town for a prolonged period. What will you do? We have had cases where for a prolonged period the man could not get an erection. What will you do? But Jesus delivered him and restored their sexual intimacy. This is the time that you have to learn what it is to be content in God and God alone – this goes for both single and married people. Set your love on God alone.

Pursuing marriage more than you pursue God is idolatry, pure and simple, whether you are married or single. As a single, all you are concerned about is attending marriage seminars and sitting next to handsome men in church. Then you have created an idol for yourself because pursuing marriage more than your God is idolatry. When you are married and you pursue your marriage more than you pursue God, it is idol worship. When you resolve in your heart to pursue your marriage and to abandon God, then something has gone wrong. People usually won’t verbalize this but they do it. The best gift you can give your spouse is to love God more than them. Some people erroneously think the correct order is to love their spouse first, then Jesus. That is completely wrong. When you pursue your marriage more than God you are an idol worshipper.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please grow my adoration for Jesus and teach my heart to pursue Christ first at all times, in Jesus Name.
