In Trust
‘Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying, ‘invest this for me while I am gone’ Luke 19:13
If you examine the words of Jesus, you will discover that He spoke more about money than anything else. Jesus spoke more about money than He did about healing or about heaven. In fact, many times when Jesus spoke about heaven He used money to illustrate. ‘A man was going to a far country and he gave his servants five talents, two talents…’ Talents are silver, the currency in those days. Yet a lot of people have an issue with the church talking about money. Over the next few days, our goal is to set some solid foundations in this area by the grace of God so that we can build on them in the weeks ahead. One thing that I ask myself, and you need to ask yourself, is how much money does a man really need? How much money do you really need? I have discovered that we don’t really need that much money. We need money to feed our family when we are not fasting, maintain a roof over our heads, and to go where ever we want to go by the grace of God. The problem with a lot of people is that what they want money for is so that they can boast and oppress other people. God is not interested in that. If God wants to really bless us, as He really does, and we really don’t need a lot of money then what is the excess for? This is a question you and I need to ponder on to help us get the right perspective about money. If God wants to bless you with excess, then excess must be for something else. So how much money do you really need? And be honest with yourself. Note that I did not ask how much money you really want. So don’t answer based on how much money you want.
We need to get a proper perspective about money. Some of us think that we are poor but in reality you are not. The truth is that you need to understand where you are right now. There is a website that is called “Global rich list’ and on that site if you earn fifty thousand naira you are in the top 14.63% richest people in the world. So think of all the people who earn way lower than you and realize today that you can help them. You are richer than you think! Now you can see what the excess is for.
Prayer: Father, open my eyes to where I must channel the excess that You have entrusted into my hands for others who are in need, in Jesus Name.
