On Jesus
1 Corinthians 15:14 “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” (NIV)
Our faith is hinged on the fact that Jesus walked on earth, claimed to be God, and gave us a lot of evidence supporting His claim. He died for our sins, He rose from the dead, and He went back to heaven in front of hundreds of witnesses (Acts 1). This is the foundation of our faith. I love testimonies and I encourage people to share their testimonies to the glory of God. And it is because testimonies build up people’s faith and encourages people in their faith. However, you cannot hinge your faith in your answered prayers. That is not good enough, not strong enough.
If your faith is based on prayers being answered, what will happen in seasons when it appears that your prayers are being delayed?
Yes, you really wanted a job, so you prayed, trusted God, sowed a seed, and boom! You got an amazing job. That is a fantastic display of faith, but that cannot be the basis for your faith. People say, “If God can do it for this person, God can do it for me”. And they make that testimony the basis of their faith. Then if it appears that God has not yet done it for them, their faith begins to shake. Testimonies can inspire faith, and testimonies can help build your faith, but testimonies cannot be the foundation of your faith. The foundation of your faith must be Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus. Listen, if all God did for us was Jesus coming, Jesus dying for our sins, Jesus rising again, and making us accepted into God’s family. That is more than enough, and that must be the foundation. Every other thing is an addition.
Unfortunately, we sometimes make the things that we want God to do, based on what He has done for other people (or based on what we desire), the basis for our faith. That is asking for trouble. The Word of God says in Hebrews 12:2 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…” (NIV). The King James Version says, “…Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…”. The English Standard Version says, “…Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…”. Only Jesus can be the foundation of our faith. Hebrews 4:14 “…we [believers] have a great High Priest who has [already ascended and] passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith and cling tenaciously to our absolute trust in Him as Saviour].” (AMP, emphasis added). Question, what are you clinging to? Feelings? What happens when you don’t feel the love of God? A person? Even if the person is the most anointed on earth, he or she is going to let you down. We should only cling to Jesus and never stop trusting Him.
Prayer: Father, I anchor my faith on Christ and Christ alone, in Jesus Name. Amen!
