God Sized
‘I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint’ Hab. 2:1.
Firstly, to receive a dream, go to the balcony. When we were growing up, the balcony was where my father would lounge and read his newspaper in the cool of the evening breeze. To you and I, the balcony is a picture of relaxation; a place where you are relaxed and in tune with God. It is a place where you go to get an idea from heaven. ‘I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint’ Hab. 2:1. Habakkuk said, ‘I will set my watch’, meaning I will go to my balcony. I will see what he will say to me, a place to get a larger perspective, a place to keep your eyes on the big picture; a place to get a vision – a dream for your life, your family, your finances, and for your assignments. This is the end of the second quarter of this year, what is the dream for your family this year? What is the dream for your spouse? What is the dream for your finances this year? You might want to sit with your spouse again, assuming you did that at the beginning of the year, and discuss your dream for the family. What is your dream, what can you see? Nothing very spooky or spiritual but what can you see in your mind’s eye? This is an exercise for today. Make sure you are doing it over a light meal. And do not turn it into a battleground. In many cases, the man can see something already, that is how men are wired. He may not be able to articulate it, he may not have said it but he has seen something. Your job is to bring it out of him and articulate it.
Some of us need to start from where we are and think. A lot of people don’t even think. The story goes that when Bill Gates was a child, he locked himself in a room. When his mother finally found him and asked him what he was doing, his reply was ‘Mum I am thinking, don’t you?’ You should have a time where you just actively engage your brain. Many of us don’t but we have to learn how to do it. You have to learn to take a break. You have to learn to rest – I am not saying sleep. Move away from the things that normally would put pressure on you and rest.
Thought: Take time out this coming weekend to just rest and think.
Prayer: Precious Holy Spirit, please expand my capacity to dream. Help me consistently seek the God perspective on things, in Jesus Name.
