What’s Your Excuse?

‘Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve’ Prov.24:12

David survived all the pressures of life because of his heart. David was sidelined, his own father, Jesse, and his brothers relegated him to the wilderness, David got a prize for killing goliath, the first daughter of Saul the king, but Saul gave his wife to somebody else. Imagine you have paid the bride price for your wife and then you go there to pick up your bride with your friends and find out that she has been given to someone else. But through all of this, David watched over his heart. Amazing!

Michal, Saul other daughter, had a crush on David. The Bible says, ‘In the meantime, Saul’s daughter Michal had fallen in love with David, and Saul was delighted when he heard about it.  “Here’s another chance to see him killed by the Philistines!” Saul said to himself. But to David he said, “Today you have a second chance to become my son-in-law!” “Tell David that all I want for the bride price is 100 Philistine foreskins! Vengeance on my enemies is all I really want.” But what Saul had in mind was that David would be killed in the fight1Sam.18:20-21 & 24. Meaning that the initial bride price he paid was gone right? And this time Saul demanded for a hundred foreskins of the philistines. Meaning David needed to go into the enemy camp by himself, kill a hundred of them and remove their foreskins. In order words, David had to kill a hundred men, circumcise them, and bring their foreskins to Saul. David went through all this and his heart was still intact. What’s your excuse?

David would worship God and demons will fly out of his boss. And this same boss would pick up a javelin and physically throw it at David. I’m not referring to spirituals arrows now. Saul’s attack on David was physical so much so that one day Michal out of love woke David up and told him about her father’s plan to kill him. She was warning him so he could run for his life. ‘When Saul realized that the Lord was with David and how much his daughter Michal loved him, Saul became even more afraid of him, and he remained David’s enemy for the rest of his life1Sam.18:28-29.But in all this, his heart was intact. I ask again, what’s your excuse? What’s my excuse?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please give me a clean heart so that I would walk worthy of You, in Jesus Name.
