‘For this is what the Lord says: David will have a descendant sitting on the throne of Israel forever’ Jer.33:17.
The second thing that David left us is the perpetual kingship of Israel. In fact the kingship of Israel is known as the throne of David. Whoever is going to be king in Israel is occupying the throne of David [Jer.33:17]. Even Jesus is called the Son of David and the Bible says Jesus will sit on the throne of David his father [Luke 1:32]. That is just minded blowing. David left two major legacies – perpetual kingship of Israel and the Book of Psalms. Again in the Psalms, you will see the legacy of the sons of Korah, of Asaph, Moses and the others that wrote the Psalms all connected with the legacy of David. In fact the legacy of Jesus is connected to the legacy of David. Permit me to resound this: none of us is as smart as all of us. There is none that can fulfill his destiny by himself or herself. It is not possible.
All of David’s legacies were made possible because of one thing, his relationship with God. You have to pay attention to your relationship with God. You must know God by yourself. Your pastor can teach you and guide you but you must know God for yourself. When David found himself at cross roads, David always sort God. In fact the Bible says and David enquired of the Lord. So beginning today and for the next couple of days we are going to be learning how to enquire of the Lord. Are you ready because your life is about to change totally!
Please read 1 Samuel 23:9-12. Follow me carefully. David and his men had just rescued Keilah from the hands of the Philistines. They stuck out their necks for Keilah and the people of Keilah. So it is easy to assume that loyalty will beget loyalty right? Don’t get yourself killed! Don’t assume because you have been loyal to people they will be loyal to you. The fact that you have been loyal to people does not mean they will be loyal to you. Always enquire of the Lord. ‘The Philistines arrived and spread out across the valley of Rephaim. So David asked the Lord, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The Lord replied to David, “Yes, go ahead. I will certainly hand them over to you”’ 2Sam.5:18&19. David enquired of the Lord. You have to develop the habit of enquiring of the Lord.
Prayer: Father, teach me by Your Sprit to rely totally on You and to consistently enquire of You, in Jesus Name.
