God First!
‘Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need’ Matt.6:33
This is God’s Word for you today. ‘…Don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need’ Matt.6:31-33. The key to having everything you need is making God priority. God is saying don’t become consumed with the things that dominate the thoughts of the unbeliever – what to eat, what to wear, where to live, what cars to buy. God says, you shouldn’t worry about that. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. And God’s promise to you is that He will add these things to you. In other words, make God priority and your needs will be sorted. While people are running helter-skelter, you be still in His Presence.
You cannot spend two hours watching television and spend two minutes reading your Bible and expect life change. It has never worked like that and it never will. Believers spend hours watching all sorts of programs with funny spiritual undertones. Then wonder why their marriage is unstable, or why their character is poor, or how come things don’t change. It is because God is not mocked. ‘Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant’ Gal.6:7. Whatever a man sows, that he will reap. For some of us it is computer games or our mobile devices. You cannot sow hours in your Blackberry and reap spiritual growth. You cannot invest your time in things that cannot save and expect salvation. I am not saying television is a sin; I am saying put a commensurate effort or slightly more in your spiritual growth. I want to challenge you to spend the same number of hours you spend on your mobile device, reading your Bible and praying. If you do that I can guarantee you life change. Spend the remaining days of this year growing in the habit of prioritizing God. For many of us, God is not priority in our lives and we know it. We say for a moment that we want to make God priority but that friend shows up and our priorities change. God can empower you today to live for Him. You have to make God priority and Jesus the Lord of all.
Prayer[song]: Everything (2x), Lord You are everything to me. My Treasure, my Priority, who can compare to You. Great is the measure of Your royalty. O Morning Star, You truly are everything. Amen.
