The Only One!

‘Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” John 11:40 [NIV]

For a lot of us, due to apparent delays, we have begun to ask the same question that John the Baptist asked after he had been in prison for a while. “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” Martha faced similar delays. She had called Jesus to come and heal her brother Lazarus but Jesus delayed. Jesus then shows up after Lazarus had died and Martha says, “Well, Jesus, it’s too late right now to heal my brother”. And Jesus says, “Don’t you understand, I am The One”. And Martha says, “O Yeah, I know he is going to rise up again at the resurrection morning and we will sing and rejoice together”. Jesus says, “Martha, I Am the Resurrection and the Life, just believe Me”. And so they get to the graveside and Jesus says, “Roll away the stone”. And Martha says, “I told you that he has been buried for four days, he will be stinking by now”. And Jesus said, “Didn’t I tell you, if you believe, you will see the glory of the Lord?” [Translated from John 11]. And I am saying to you today, if you will believe, you will see the glory of the Lord because Jesus is The One.

To the single person out there, Jesus is The One that you are searching for. When you meet your life partner, your life partner becomes number two and Jesus remains The One. For those who are married, your spouse is not The One. I am sure you have discovered that by now. If you have been married for at least six months, you would know what I am saying. Your spouse is not the one, Jesus is The One, your spouse is number two. When you get this right you will stop looking to number two for what only The One can fulfill. When you get this right, you will be so free to love your spouse because you know that he/she is not the one but number two. Keep your heart and your commitment steadfast on The One.

The only person you can totally satisfy is Jesus. You can’t satisfy your spouse completely (100%); it’s impossible! I am sure the married people can attest to this. The converse is also the case, there’s no human being on earth that can completely satisfy you. The only person that can satisfy you is The One – Jesus Christ of Nazareth. So, stop looking to number two for what only The One can deliver. Pause! Calmly think about that, and let it sink into your soul. This truth is deliverance – total deliverance. Why? It is because you are looking to The One that made you, knows you inside out, and still loves you. Some couples cannot even be totally honest with each other for fear of how the other person would react. But guess what? The One knows already and He loves you regardless.

Prayer: Father, I believe; but help me overcome my unbelief, in Jesus Name. [Mark 9:24]
