Re-Affirm
“Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen— the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor” Matt.11:4-5.
Sometimes, our circumstances or the circumstances in which we find ourselves threaten our intimacy. “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Matt.11:3. Now think about it, how can John the Baptist ask such a question after all he has seen? How can he ask such a question after all he has been through? Remember, John was six months older than Jesus. John met Jesus first in the womb [Luke 1:41]. So John knew Jesus even by revelation [Mark 1:7]. He didn’t take it for granted that Jesus was his cousin. He baptized Jesus. John authenticated Jesus’ ministry. John announced Jesus to the world- “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 [NKJV]. But as he was going through a dark place, this same John asked, “are you the one or should we expect another?” Wow! Circumstances can make us ask some questions that we ought not to be asking in the first place. So what do you do when the things you are going through threaten the things you have been through? What do you do when the things you are currently seeing are threatening the things you have seen? What do you do when your current experience is threatening your previous experiences with God? What do you do when the storm that is facing you is threatening the Jesus that you have seen exalted in your life? What do you do when you get to a point like John did and say to Jesus, “are you the one?” For a lot of us, this is exactly what we are facing. But for some, we have no idea what all this is about. Trust me; it is knowledge you want to keep. I can assure you that you are going to pass through this but you will come out strong, in Jesus Name. So what do you do when what you are seeing is threatening what you have seen? The first thing that you do is what Jesus told them in Matt.11:4-6. When the things you are experiencing attempt to drown the things you have experienced, the first thing you do is re-affirm what you have seen, heard, and experienced. “Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen” Matt.11:4. In other words Jesus was saying go and re-affirm to John what he already knows. Many times we need to re-affirm. When we get to that place and we are asking, “Are you the one or should we expect another?” The One is saying, remember when I delivered you from this, remember when I delivered you from that. Remember this and that. Re-affirm what you have seen and heard.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, amidst uncertainty I will remember You and find peace within, in Jesus Name.
