Single-mindedness

“Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body.
He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything” Col.1:18

Christ is the head of the church and we are His body. You cannot tell someone you like his or her head but you do not like the same persons legs. The Church is the Bride of Christ. Similarly, you cannot say I love you but I do not like your wife. In fact, for me, if you do not like my wife you cannot be my friend. So I check people that do not like my wife and I run away from them. If you want us to be friends then like my wife – love my wife. There is definitely something wrong with men that are at peace with people [male and female] that do not like their wives. “For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heavenCol.1:4-5 [emphasis added]. Let your faith and your love for God’s people be based on your hope of eternity because this is what makes the difference with us as believers. This earth is frail and fragile, if you just watch the news you will see that anything can happen at anytime. People are amassing weapons of mass destruction. Everybody is getting ready for something and if you check the history of man, you do not even need to be a historian, there is no weapon man has made that man has not used. From the time of Cain and Abel, there is no weapon that man has made that he did not use. But as Christians we are not without hope. If this world was all that we are living for, like Paul said, we are of all men most miserable. We have our confident hope in eternity. We have our confident hope in our God that lives in eternity, loves us and cares for us.

Please read Col.1:9-12, it is Paul’s prayer for the church in Colossae. You will notice that Paul was not praying for breakthrough or for deliverance. Is breakthrough relevant? Is deliverance relevant? As long as we are on this earth I am sure it will be. But Paul’s prayer is as if he is saying if only you will know God and know His will. If only the eyes of your understanding will be opened it. It is as if Paul is saying that all these things will be nothing to you, meaning you will not lack anything. Jesus said this same thing in another way in Matt.6:33 [Please Read]. Paul was not praying for God to give them a breakthrough. Paul was saying, Father that You will open the eyes of their understanding so they will be able to walk honorably and please You. That their lives will produce fruit as they grow and that You will strengthen them with Your glorious power.

Thought: I encourage you to read and pray Col.1:9-12 everyday this week.

Prayer: Father, grow me in discernment and in the knowledge of Your will so that my life will be fruitful in every good work and be fully pleasing to You, in Jesus Name
