Domestic Affairs III

“Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly” Col.3:19

“Husbands, love your wives [be affectionate and sympathetic with them] and do not be harsh or bitter or resentful toward them” Col.3:19 [AMP, emphasis added]. That word affectionate there means to be romantic. Men, God is saying be romantic, it is in the Bible. Chivalry should not die, be romantic. Some gentleman came to me and said he had been watching my wife and I and how he sees me being romantic. The he says but he is not like that. Naturally, I asked him why. And he said he is more macho. I said to him honestly I used to be like that. Most men are like that. But you need to choose what will rule your life, how you have been brought up or the Word of God, choose one. What will it be?

The Word of God says be affectionate. Just give her a hug for nothing sake, it won’t hurt you, just try it. You are with her and you are approaching the door, get the door. I do not always open the car door for my wife but sometimes I do it. And God has done it in such a way that it is when I do it that people see it and declare that I always do it. Open the door. Hold her hand and walk to the car together. Do it today. A man and his wife were walking towards their car after one of our worship experiences and I was talking to a man so his wife was waiting for him. And the next thing he did was give her the keys to the car. In other words, go to the car. But the wife insisted on waiting for him to hold her hand after all that was what Pastor said. So do not send me to the car, hold my hand and walk with me. Men sometimes get so stiff but God is saying be affectionate. Someone said to me, chivalry is dead because women killed it. Some ladies when you are affectionate to them they cannot receive it. It is sad but you will receive. Again sometimes it is not that the women really cannot receive it but they misread the situation. For example, sometimes my wife and I we kind of struggle with who will or won’t drive. So when we go out, who ever does not want to drive races to the car before the other person, gets into the passenger seat and shuts the door. One day we went to visit a family friend and watching her I could see that she was really tired. So I decided to be extra nice so I was heading to the car ahead to her to open the door for her. But as soon as she saw me heading towards the passenger side of the car she said don’t even try it. A friend was with us and he gave me the “someone is in trouble today” stare. And I am wondering what did I do? And then I realized what my actions suggested to her. Sometimes we miss judge things.

Prayer: Father, I pray that You will teach and help my spouse and I live our lives by Your Word and I pray the same for every couple reading this today, in Jesus Name.
