Absolute Love
“But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” Rom.5:8.
Some people have become so entangled with competing that it has become full blown rivalry. Rivalry about different political camps for instance has led to siblings turning their back on each other. Politicians will come and go and after they have gone your brother still remains your brother. For some people it is the football club they support that has resulted in full-blown marital problems. The husband and wife go to club to watch a match together, but because the woman’s team wins, the man drives off and leaves his wife. It is not necessary and certainly not healthy. You need to know what healthy competition is, what unhealthy competition is and draw the line.
In competing situations, the second thing you do is Remember God’s Unconditional Love. When did God start loving you? Was it when you had it all together? No! God did not start loving you when you promised to be good. God started loving you while you were still in sin. A story is told of a man that died and went to heaven. But the angel that greeted him at the gate told him he had to write a test and score at least a hundred points to enter. And the test question is, why should you be here? So the man began to recount the fifteen years he spent feeding the poor with Mother Theresa but that only attracted one point.
And the man was alarmed. He told the angel about his six children, raised in the way of the Lord and all of them are missionaries. Again the angel gave him one point for this. The man was even more alarmed. I spent my whole life training those children and all of them are missionaries. Surely that must count for more. But the angel did not add any more points for that. So the man said all I have left is the grace of God. The angel said one hundred points. The point is this; it is only by the grace of God. Every other thing cannot measure up. Never forget that! In any competing situation in your life, your marriage, at work, in school, remember God loves you unconditionally. And since God loves me unconditionally, I can relax and love Him back. I do not have to prove my worth to anybody because God already considers me worthy.
Prayer: Father, my lips shall praise You because Your loving kindness is better than life [Ps.63:3], in Jesus Name.
