Choose Light
‘For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!’ Eph.5:8
Today’s devotional is inspired by a story, a parable if you will; two young boys, Bob and James, cousins. Bob was born and has lived all his formative years abroad. He is accustomed to uninterrupted power supply, this is what he knows. James on the other hand, was born and has lived all his formative years in Nigeria. James knows what it is to go three weeks without power supply. And as the story goes, Bob and his father came to visit. At dinner on their first night, there was a sudden power outage – total black out. Bob becomes hysterical and starts to scream ‘Dad, help me! I have gone blind, I cannot see’. James on the other hand is totally relaxed and is quick to calm Bob down because to him ‘it is just a power outage’. You see for Bob it was staggering and scary but for James darkness had become a normal occurrence. Someone once said ‘when you hear a lie very often it becomes the truth’. Have you gotten comfortable in the dark and are just content to see light anytime the powers that be flash it or are you making a conscious effort to stay in the light that Christ has purchased and has given you freely. In reality, you cannot afford to hang around a lie long enough for it to become the truth that you know. You are made in the image of God, in Him there is only light. You have been given a light that darkness cannot compete with. Some people think that if you leave satan alone, he will also leave you alone. This is just another deception of the enemy. We must constantly yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit, and let Him reveal darkness that we might have become accustomed to or have begun to tolerate. Indulging in sin deliberately because you know God is forgiving is a choice to sit in a dangerously dark room. We must make the choice daily to live as people of light.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that my heart will be flooded with light. Let Your light within me produce only what is good and right and true in my life, in Jesus Name.
