Sweet Perfume

Ex.20:⁴ “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. ⁵ You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God…” [with emphasis]

Idolatry suggests that God can be at man’s disposal. Worship on the other hand is putting myself at God’s disposal. The worship state of mind is I am here to worship You! Why have you come into God’s Presence today? I am not saying it is wrong to show up in God’s Presence with a prayer list or a need you want God to meet. But is worship of the Living God on the top of your list in His Presence? If it is not, then you need to repent of idolatry. I pray that your worship state of mind will be renewed today and it will be “I want to worship God – my service is to worship God.” Worship is not a waste of time.

In an attempt to use reverse psychology on God, a lady says to God, “I have been bringing this same request, this same thing and You have still not answered. If I were God and this was your request, I would have done it a long time ago.” What she is saying in essence is, she is more merciful than the Most Merciful, more compassionate than the Most Compassionate. A genie may respond to that but God does not have to. The truth is you can say anything you want to say, God is I AM THAT I AM. God is secure in Himself, complete in Himself, He does not need to prove a point.

It will surprise you to know that by God’s grace, my prayer sessions are usually sixty to seventy percent worship. Sometimes, it can be as low as twenty percent or as high as ninety percent worship! I just show up before my Father and say, “Father, I have just come to show up. Father, your boy is here to worship You!” And I just worship and adore Him, in the beauty of holiness – all I do is worship Him. One of the things Pastors never lack is prayer points. But if I have one hour to pray, I typically would spend thirty to forty-five minutes in praise and worship. I do not know why but for some reason, it is more effective. Indulge me, let us worship God together, right now. Put down your devotional and just focus on God. Not because you do not have needs or prayer points, but just because…
