About Character II

Ps.105:¹⁹ “Until the time came to fulfil his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.”

Today, we will continue in our study of Daniel 1:1-21 by asking more questions. I pray that as you engage, God Himself will grow and strengthen your courage and character. 

The fourth question is, Daniel and his friends had reasons to be bitter and to question God. Why did God allow them to be taken captive? Why did God allow evil to happen to their parents?They were separated from their loved ones, yet they chose to live for God. How does this apply to and inspire us today? Daniel was probably told repeatedly as a child about his big God and how his people were special. Now suddenly, his nation was conquered and he had become a slave. And this big God did not stop these Babylonians from invading the city of God. Should they not be bitter, have an attitude, and even question God? What can we learn? Even when we do not understand God or what He is doing, we are to trust Him.

Question five is, courage is not the absence of fear; courage is the decision not to compromise in the face of fear. Go back to Daniel 1:1-21 and identify the verses that demonstrate this. This passage also shows us some attributes of courage, which can you identify? Courage – is it  infectious? because Daniel had courage, his three friends contacted it and their supervisor also took the risk. Courage is contagious the same way fear is contagious. When somebody steps out in courage, other people follow suit. Another attribute is, courage is always rewarded. Finally, what personal encouragement do you find in this passage to face your uncertainties and fears? Write it down and the steps you would take to actualize them beginning today.

Those fears that scored ten on your chart, the fears you have been running from rather than facing, I would advise you to focus on the top three. The next thing is identifying one action you need to take in order to face each fear and action! For instance, if it is the fear of failing an exam, the action would be to register and start preparing for the exam.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I ask for the grace to walk in the fullness of the character that You require of me, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
