Genesis 13:18 “So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at the city of Hebron. There he built an altar to the LORD.” (NCV)

If there is something that we must learn, something that should have stood out to us about Caleb from our lessons so far, it is the fact that no matter what we are believing God for, we need to have a long-term view of waiting on God to fulfil His promises. We need to play the long game when it comes to the promises of God. Read the rest of this entry

Secure It

Joshua 14:13 “So Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave Hebron to him as his portion of land.” (emphasis added).

Joshua 15:16-17 Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the one who attacks and captures Kiriath-Sepher.”  Othniel… was the one who conquered it, so Acsah became Othniel’s wife.” One final thing fathers, you have a duty not to let your ‘Acsah’ walk into the hands of a ‘spineless’ man in the name of love. Like Father

Joshua 15:19 “She said, “Give me another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev; now please give me springs of water, too.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.”

Back in the day, particularly in the Nigerian culture, when people want to get married, what happens is the families go and check the other family’s history. Those things were and are crucial. Sadly, we threw that part of the culture out of the window because we are embracing the West. Read the rest of this entry

Daddy’s Girl

Joshua 15:16 “Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the one who attacks and captures Kiriath-Sepher.”

Acsah was daddy’s girl, and ‘daddy’s girls’ of strong men usually have challenges settling down because they know what to do as they have seen their father do things. Read the rest of this entry

Fathers

Numbers 27:1-2&4 “One day a petition was presented by the daughters of Zelophehad… These women stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the tribal leaders, and the entire community at the entrance of the Tabernacle… Give us property along with the rest of our relatives.”

Some people do not want to have anything to do with church today because they say Christianity is the tool of the West to colonize Africa. I agree that some parts of the West used Christianity as a tool of colonization. Anyone that disagrees with that does not understand history.

True Leader

Joshua 15:16-17 “Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the one who attacks and captures Kiriath-Sepher.”  Othniel, the son of Caleb’s brother Kenaz, was the one who conquered it, so Acsah became Othniel’s wife.”

One huge lesson in conquest is that every force is as strong as its weakest soldier. Every chain is as strong as the weakest link in the chain. But when everybody pulls together, we become absolutely unstoppable. This is why as a people, we like to pray together, Read the rest of this entry

Always Better

Ecclesiastes 4:9&12 “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

Our fourth lesson from Caleb is You Cannot Become A General Without First Serving As A Scout. Generals are first scouts. The fifth lesson is We Are Better Together. When you read the story of Caleb,

As Scouts

Joshua 14:12 “So give me the mountain that the Lord promised me. You will remember that as scouts we found the descendants of Anak living there in great, walled towns…” (emphasis added)

Caleb could confidently give his testimony as a scout because he was faithful. If Caleb were lying, what do you think Joshua would have said? I thank God that most of the Pastors and leaders that I served under are still alive. Read the rest of this entry

Third Dimension

Luke 16:12 “And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?”

This is the third dimension. The first dimension, Luke 16:10 If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.Read the rest of this entry

Trustworthy

2 Samuel 22:26 “To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.”

Sometimes, when Jesus is teaching, He is teaching the same truth, but He uses different analogies. When He does that, it means whatever He says is very important. Remember the story of the prodigal son? In the same chapter, Jesus told the story of the lost coin. Read the rest of this entry
