Understanding Favour: Response 1
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Rom.9:13
When you examine all the cases of rivalry, one common denominator is favour. Either parental favour (which brews bitterness); or divine favour. God has favourites, it may not make sense but it is God’s choice. God wants to teach us to understand favour and as such how to properly respond to favour so that Read the rest of this entry
Sibling Rivalry I
Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart. Mark 3:25
Sibling rivalry is a major cause of lack of harmony in homes. The most dangerous are fights ever recorded are the fights between brothers and sister. You are most vulnerable to the people closest to you. Siblings being at logger heads can be so devastating. Some live and die and never reconcile. If you Read the rest of this entry
Agreement
Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? Amos 3:3(NIV)
Do two people walk hand in hand if they aren’t going to the same place? Amos 3:3(MSG)
Scientists tell us that the two eyes do not see the same object in the same say. One sees one perspective and the other another perspective and the brain puts both perspectives together. Then our minds interpret a complete image – harmony; this is a perfect picture of harmony. So why must you insist that Read the rest of this entry
Spiritual Head
The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord. Prov.18:22
The roles of the husband and wife in the family are distinct; different but complementary. This is how God intended for it to be. He gave Adam the responsibility of tending to the garden and Eve the responsibility of helping. A number of couples confuse the roles and this brings about disunity and Read the rest of this entry
Family Harmony
Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Phil.2:2
God calls teams in every family; between the couple, between siblings and the entire family. The term harmony derives from the Greek ἁρμονία (harmonía), meaning ‘joint, agreement, concord’, from the verb ἁρμόζω (harmozo), ‘to fit together, to join’. The dictionary definition of harmony means ‘a pleasing combination of elements in a whole’. For a family to experience harmony, all of the parts must be working together as a whole. It is only in this agreeable state Read the rest of this entry
Countdown
‘While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal’ 2cor 4:18
Is your focus on the temporal pain or the eternal gain? When you look at pain this way, it makes it bearable. Whenever you feel like the situation is unbearable, check, most times you are focusing on the wrong thing. We are able to bear pain when we are not looking at our current predicament. Rather, Read the rest of this entry
Your Calling
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 2 Cor.4:17
Have you ever wondered why God lets you experience storms? Or why you have prayed and prayed and still nothing seems to be happening? Or why it seems no one knows the cost of the life you now are so thankful for. ‘Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set Read the rest of this entry
Self-dependency!
Yes, He humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deut.8:3
Humble yourself so that God would not have to humble you. Self-dependency can be the greatest undoing of any child of God. If you can afford it or you can do it on your own then why do you need God? Because God loves you dearly, He will probably take you through a wilderness situation like the children of Read the rest of this entry
Self-Righteous?
My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to Your decrees. Ps.119:71
I kept myself and got married as a virgin, I’m now married for five years and I don’t have a child. If God were to choose someone to delay childbirth, why me, after all I have been faithful! I know what other girls did in school and yet they got pregnant immediately. Why me? A number of us have experiences that Read the rest of this entry
Faith vs. Works
God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Eph.2:8-9
Salvation is by grace and faith alone and cannot be merited by good works. A number of us have this figured out wrongly, we think that we merit God’s love because of the things that we have done or are currently doing. Until you understand that it is not by works of righteousness but by His grace alone you Read the rest of this entry
