Ezekiel 18:31-32 “Clean house. No more rebellions, please. Get a new heart! Get a new spirit! Why would you choose to die, Israel? I take no pleasure in anyone’s death. Decree of God, the Master. “Make a clean break! Live!” (MSG)
Remember the starting point for Jacob was Genesis 28:11-15 “When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, Read the rest of this entry
The Walk
Isaiah 60:19-20 “No longer will you need the sun or moon to give you light, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and he will be your glory. Your sun shall never set; the moon shall not go down—for the Lord will be your everlasting light; your days of mourning all will end.” (LB)
Genesis 32:31 “The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.” (NIV). “The sun rose above him…”, this is so huge! God dislocated Jacob’s hip and he limped for the rest of his life. Jacob was given a reminder for the rest of his life so he will never forget Who is in charge. Read the rest of this entry
The Turnaround
Isaiah 62:2-4 “And you will be given a new name by the Lord’s own mouth. The Lord will hold you in his hand for all to see—a splendid crown in the hand of God. Never again will you be called “The Forsaken City” or “The Desolate Land.” Your new name will be “The City of God’s Delight”…”
What is your name? The original meaning of Jacob is deceiver, manipulator, supplanter, schemer, trickster, and swindler. If you are asked right now for your name, what would you say? If you were to be named by your greatest weakness, your greatest flaw what would be your name? Read the rest of this entry
Commit & Confess
Psalm 139:23-24 “Explore me, O God, and know the real me. Dig deeply and discover who I am. Put me to the test and watch how I handle the strain. Examine me to see if there is an evil bone in me, and guide me down Your path forever.” (Voice).
Jacob got to that place in the crisis phase when he chose to stop running. Jacob got to the point where he realized that his conflict was with God and not with Esau. And he responded by committing to wrestle with God until he can walk in the blessing. God is checking, Read the rest of this entry
The Objective
Isaiah 62:7 “Tirelessly pester God—give Him no rest—until He re-establishes Jerusalem and makes it worthy of praise throughout the whole world.” (Voice)
The first phase Jacob experienced before he could walk in the blessing was the Crisis Phase. As it is said, God whispers in our pleasures, but He shouts in our pain. Pain helps us hear God shouting. Sometimes, God uses conflict, trauma, or pain to get our attention. Read the rest of this entry
Not Man, But God
Proverbs 16:7 “When God approves of your life, when the Lord is pleased with the decisions you’ve made, even he activates grace to turn enemies into friends, your enemies will end up shaking your hand.” (MSG/TPT)
We will pick up today’s devotional with our final thought from yesterday. Which is, that you and I will discover that the biggest crisis, the biggest conflict, the biggest wrestling that you and I have in life is with God. You may be struggling and wrestling perhaps in your relationship with your children. Read the rest of this entry
Face It!
Genesis 32:22&24 “During the night Jacob… took his two wives, his two servant wives, and his eleven sons and crossed the Jabbok River… This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break.” (emphasis added).
How do I walk in the blessing? The first thing you need to realize is that God is more interested in your character than in your contribution. Yes, God is more interested in who you are becoming on earth, than in what you are contributing (doing) to earth. Read the rest of this entry
The Covenant
Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”’ (NKJV).
Genesis 28:11-15 “When Jacob reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. He found a smooth stone for a pillow and laid down to sleep. Then GOD GAVE HIM A DREAM in which he saw a stairway going from earth to heaven, and angels of God were going up and down the stairs! At the top of the stairway was God who said, ‘I am the same Lord of Abraham your grandfather and Isaac your father, and I am going to give you and your descendants all the land on which you’re sleeping... and your descendants will spread all around the world, and all the peoples on earth are going to be blessed by your future generations… I’m going to be with you, and I’m going to watch over you wherever you go…” (NIV, paraphrased with emphasis added). Do you receive that? God will be with you wherever you go. Personalize it. Read the rest of this entry
Refocus
Matthew 6:34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
If the future is inevitable, there is no need to sweat over it. There is no need to worry, just plan and trust God. And guess what? One thing is certain from the time man began to exist on earth till now, and that is death. Every human being will die except raptured by Christ. Read the rest of this entry
Trust God!
Matthew 6:34 “So don’t be anxious about tomorrow, don’t worry about tomorrow. For tomorrow will bring its own worries. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Live one day at a time. (LB/NLT)
