Headship, II
1 Corinthians 11:3&9 “But I want you to understand that Christ is the head (authority over) of every man, and man is the head (authority over) of woman, and God is the head of Christ… And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.” (AMP & NLT).
We are still on the debate of headship from Genesis 3:16 “Unto the woman he said… in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” (KJV).
Headship, I
Ephesians 5:23-24 “For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Saviour of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.”
The dynamics of family leadership are so important to the fabric of the family. If the leadership of the family is not clear,
Run To God!
Psalm 27:10 “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close, the Lord will take care of me, the Lord will take me up [adopt me as His child].” (NLT & GW & AMPC).
God is the Father of fathers, He can and will take care of you. For those who in the past few days have been feeling that the absence of a father in their lives is the reason for all the problems they have been having. God wants you to know that He is here for you.
Progenitor
Genesis 18:19 “I have chosen him for a reason… he will carefully instruct his children and his household to keep themselves strong in relationship to Me and to walk in My ways… I know he will uphold his end of the covenant… My promises to him will be fulfilled…” (The Voice)
In an analysis of over one hundred studies on parent-child relationships, it was found that having a loving and nurturing father was as important
Woman!
Proverbs 31:25-27 “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness.”
We will start today’s devotional with our final thought from yesterday. Proverbs 13:22 “A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.” (NIV).
Be Capable!
Ecclesiastes 9:11 “I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong, neither is bread to the wise nor riches to men of intelligence and understanding nor favour to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.” (AMPC)
Note that the scripture is not saying do not be swift, or do not be strong, or do not be wise, or do not be intelligent. Some young people say they do not want to go to the university because Bill Gates did not go to the university.
Under Attack
Genesis 2:18, 22-23 “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” …Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed… She will be called ‘woman,’”
We are in a cultural moment where family is being redefined and devalued. How can two women posing as husband and wife raise a child? What kind of child would that be?
Identity
Ephesians 1:5 “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”
The families we all are born into actually shape us and shape our idea of love. Do you know that some people struggle to receive love? When you try to show them love they are always deflecting.
The Dynamics
2 Kings 4:3-4 “And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbours. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” (emphasis added)
Please read 2 Kings 4:1-7. In this passage, we see these six components at play. We see Family at play, the woman and her husband had two sons. Read the rest of this entry
The Journey
Psalm 105:19 “Until the time came to fulfil his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.”
When we think about the word destiny, when we think about our destinies, most times we are thinking about a destination. And very often we are so fixated on the destination that we miss out on many things along the way. Read the rest of this entry
