Choose Light
‘For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!’ Eph.5:8
Today’s devotional is inspired by a story, a parable if you will; two young boys, Bob and James, cousins. Bob was born and has lived all his formative years abroad. He is accustomed to uninterrupted power supply, this is what he knows. James on the other hand, was born and has lived all his formative years in Nigeria. James knows what it is to go three weeks without power supply. And as the story goes, Bob and his father came to visit. At dinner on their first Read the rest of this entry
God Thirsts
‘…I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink…’ Matt. 25:35
God thirsts – amazing right? Jesus said ‘I thirst’ when He was on the cross, scripture records that He said this in fulfillment of prophecies. Jesus said these words perhaps also because it was significant of what is important to the Father. As we have observed that Jesus spent His dying moments stressing things of utmost importance. To thirst is to desire, to crave; Desire and craving are words that suggest a very strong emotion. You thirst for what is deeply Read the rest of this entry
Are You Available?
‘…And from then on this disciple took her into his home’ John19:27b
Many have deliberated over why Jesus chose to commit His mother into Johns care. He had siblings, at least we know of two that were also used mightily by God – and Jude. Why not Peter, who was always so eager to run towards the Master? Others speculate that if He had entrusted Peter with His mother, Peter would have abandoned her and gone fishing. We cannot judge if there was a better option. However, the answer to this question is quoted in Read the rest of this entry
Seven
‘On the seventh day God had finished His work of creation, so He rested from all His work’ Gen 2:2
Seven is the number for perfection. God did all the work of creation within six days and on the seventh day He rested. In a sense, at creation, God also spoke seven words. The seven words that called forth land, sea, living creatures, plants, lights, man and rest. Jesus, God the Son, spoke seven words in His final moments to bring to perfection everything that is lacking in our lives and to bring us into His rest. Take Christ’s seven words on the cross and let them Read the rest of this entry
Remember Me
‘This is My body, which is given for you. Do this to Remember Me…, This cup is the new covenant between God and His people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to Remember Me as often as you drink it’ 1 Cor.11: 24-25
Did you ever relish the delightful experience of the toy Lego? The joy you get when you put the pieces together; when you break up the pieces and embark on a new shape forming adventure. Awesome! God of The Come-backs
And I will cause hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel. Gen.3:15
If Passion of the Christ were a Nigerian movie there will be a part two titled, The Resurrection. The God we serve is a God of the come-backs, they are His specialty. Look at Adam, satan beguiled Eve and thought he had won. God showed up with a come-back, The Seed of the woman. In other words, God was saying there is already a come-back plan – Jesus is coming. With Joseph it was his brothers; they sold him off to slavery and Read the rest of this entry
Jesus is Alive
‘… For an angel of the Lord came down from Heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow’ Matt.28:3-4.
God needed to make a statement; the Saviour of mankind was crucified not because man overpowered God but because God chose to lay His life down for man. Picture the scenario that morning; first the sudden earth quake. Then the angel with cloths as white as snow and a face like lightning descending. And with one hand rolls away the stone and sits on it and the guards scrambling and fainting. This same stone must have taken the strength of all the guards on duty that day and more to position. This is just one angel; remember that Jesus Read the rest of this entry
He is Risen
‘But the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body’ Mark 16:6
Let me tell you a story about what happened that day when Jesus was crucified. Crucify Him the crowd shouted and crucify Him they did. Jesus said ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit’. Picture the jubilation in the kingdom of darkness. satan shouting in between sips of his drink; his
Seventh Words
‘And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend My Spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost’. Luke 23:46[KJV]
‘Father, I entrust My Spirit into your hands’, the seventh words are words of reunion with the Father. Jesus started the work on the cross calling Him Father and ended the work on the cross still calling Father. ‘Unto your hands I commit my Spirit’, meaning Jesus was very aware of the activity of His Spirit and He
