Display Mercy

‘Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ Matt.18:33.

There was a king in a far away country that had several subjects. Mufu was one of the king’s subjects, a successful businessman with a lot of business ideas. Mufu needed to borrow money to fund some of his ideas. The king out of generosity allowed Mufu to borrow money from the treasury. Over time Mufu borrowed several millions from the king. Mufu had a friend Kofi, and while Mufu was borrowing from the king, Kofi was borrowing from Mufu. Mufu never agreed to lend Kofi more than a few thousands so while Mufu’s debt ran into millions, Kofi’s debt ran into thousands. One day the king decided to take stock of all that was in the treasury so he requested that the accountant review the books and let him know his debtors. And Mufu’s name came up as the number one debtor owing several millions. So the king called on Mufu to pay up but Mufu appealed to the king that he did not have the money at that time. And the king decided to send him to jail but Mufu pleaded and cried and pleaded. Knowing that even if he were to sell Mufu, his entire family, and all he owned it still would not be enough to pay off the debt, the king pardoned Mufu and wiped off the debt completely. Mufu was really happy and thanked the king repeatedly. On his way home, Mufu ran into Kofi and immediately demanded that Kofi pay up what He owed. But just like Mufu, Kofi pleaded because he did not have the funds to pay back. But Mufu grabbed him by the throat and got him arrested until he paid what he owed. News got back to the king and he was very upset. ‘If I had forgiven you, should you not have forgiven Kofi his debt. If I had had mercy upon you should you not have had mercy upon your fellow man? [Story retold from Matt.18:21-35]. God is saying that you need to show mercy to obtain mercy. ‘Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercyMatt.5:7 [NIV]. Do you need mercy in your health, finances, marital life, and business? God is saying, be merciful because blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy.

Prayer: Father, help me freely give that which I have also freely received, in Jesus Name.
