Lend Your Heart

We know what love is because Jesus gave his life for us. That’s why we must give our lives for each other’ 1 John 3:16 [CEV].

As we approach the Christmas season, it important for us to remember that our very lives are gifts to be poured out to others. And when God says give, He is not only referring to material possessions. While that is able to change the season for some people, yet there are things that God wants us to give that do not include material things. God wants us to give the people around us a part of us. God in His word admonishes us to give of that which we have also freely received. Like we said, we are going to highlight two of the seven things that we can give to other people that don’t require financial input.

Firstly, you can give your voice to the voiceless. There are people that don’t have a voice by reason of their position in the society. You can give them your voice this season by helping to speak for them. It is the same thing as lending your hand. It is the same thing as using your influence. You can give your voice to the voiceless. Giving your voice to the voiceless might also mean saying ‘hello’ to your neighbor. A simple hello sometimes is the open door we need to bring the love of God to people.

Secondly you can give your ears to the sad. There are people around us that are sad today. Some people are at their lowest point emotionally during the Christmas season. Do not just make this season about you and your family. Yes your family is important but beyond that you can give your ears to the sad. People are going through so much that if they had someone to talk to it will make a huge difference. I know that some of us are also in need of someone to talk to. But that is the problem of the poor. The poor always say I don’t have anything to give because I also need people to give me things. And this is why they remain poor. Everybody has something to give because the truth is that nobody is born empty. The Bible says God gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater. If you need someone to listen to you then begin to listen to other people.

Prayer:  Lord, teach me to open my heart and my hands to others this season and beyond, in a way that will impact them for Jesus, in Jesus Name.
