Heart Check IV
‘He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams’ Ps. 23:2
A Patient heart. David was anointed king as a teenager. He did not become king, at least over the united kingdom of Israel, till he was thirty. So for at least fifteen years, David was waiting patiently and adventurously too. He was running from pillar to post. He was just waiting. A lot of us God gives you just a glimpse of what He wants to do and we just rush and make a mess of the whole thing. David had a patient heart. In fact when David confronted goliath and killed goliath and “the women” began to sing, ‘Saul has killed his thousands, David has killed his ten thousands’. Shouldn’t that swell his head? Most people do not need women to chorus, they would open a blog – “one thousand ways to kill goliath”. In order words, come and learn from the master. Interestingly on the internet everybody is an expert, people just post crap. David killed goliath and guess where he went next, to the wilderness to take care of the sheep that he left. That is just amazing. David had grown to be a national hero but he went back to do what his father had told him to do. David had a patient heart. “God is able to do what He says He will do. He is going to fulfill every promise to you. Don’t give up on God because He won’t give up on you. He’s Able!” David knew that he was in the wilderness when they came to anoint the king. He was not even invited and God skipped Eliab, skipped Abinadab, skipped Shimiea, skipped number four, five, six, and seven. They had to come and call him from the wilderness. And they anointed him with oil in the presence of his enemies. David knew that that same God is able to take him to the throne. There is a place for hard work and I am an advocate of hard work. But there is a place for hard waiting. Hard waiting because it is hard. But you are waiting because it is not by power, it is not my might but by the Spirit of the Lord. It is not going to be by caterpillar but this mountain shall be removed in Jesus Name. The mountain before you shall be removed, ‘by My Spirit’ says the Lord. David had a patient heart.
Prayer [song]: I will wait on You, Almighty God, in the beauty of Your Holiness. I will worship You, Almighty God, in the beauty of Your Holiness.
