Found People Find People

‘Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass’ Matt.4:19 [MSG]

The second important reminder is found people find people. Jesus found two disciples and said something that was crucial. Jesus said, ‘I will make you fishers of men’ [Matt.4:18-19]. Jesus was saying, I have found you – you will find others [translated]. There was famine in Samaria. There was so much hunger that people began to eat their children. And four lepers decided to run away because the war was impending. They said to themselves, ‘let us run to the enemy’s camp and maybe they will give us food and not kill us. Lets risk it’ [translated]. And as they approached the enemy’s camp, God amplified their footsteps and it scared the enemy away. So they took all the enemy’s goods – their gold, silver, food etc. The Bible says after a while the four lepers said, ‘this is a day of good tidings. If we sit down here and eat this alone God will not be happy with us. Lets go and tell everybody’ [translated]. It is the same thing for us. The gospel is called the Good News for a purpose. It is a misnomer to see somebody that is saved and is totally unconcerned about people around him that don’t know Jesus. That does not make sense.

I once heard the story of an unbeliever who said he did not believe heaven and hell are real. So someone asked him why he said that. And he said, ‘think about it, if hell and heaven are real then as soon as church services are over all the people who sit in church will run out to pull unbelievers and force them to follow Jesus. But they don’t do that because it is not real’. I am praying that heaven will be real to you so much so that it will compel you to reach out to people. While I was in the university there was some guy we used to call Brother Tosin. Brother Tosin used to hound me. He was so patient and it was so frustrating. I abused him, pushed him out of the room, I even lied that I wasn’t around. I did all sorts of things just to get rid of him. But he kept showing up to invite me for fellowship and I kept refusing. One year later, I think he graduated; I gave my life to Jesus. He didn’t even know but he had consistently sown the seed of the Word into my heart. Many of us get discouraged because people don’t respond to us. Don’t worry, your job is not to save people, your job is to share the Gospel.

Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace and opportunities to consistently sow the Word into people’s lives, in Jesus Name.
