The Gospel
‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised’ Luke 4:18 [KJV]
A colleague of mine said that in Nigerian churches there is too much warfare. They are constantly praying against the devil. Everything is fall down and die. Everything cannot be falling down and dying. If every thing is to fall down and die, then all of us will not be here today. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with praying violently, but there is an abuse of it. My colleague was insisting that in the United Kingdom, they never had to pray like that. And I said the demons we are facing here are different from the ones in the United Kingdom. The demons in Africa only answer to fire, but sometimes the ones in the United Kingdom answer to technology. For example; one of our minister’s mother had a conflict with someone. And they did “something” to her so every house she lives in burns down. Her house burnt down. She moved to her own mother’s house, that is the minister’s grandmother’s house. The house burnt down. She was taken to some prayer ground and she was in a hotel there. That hotel on the prayer ground caught fire and the people sent her away. She went to her daughter’s house and from nowhere the house caught fire. But the daughter’s house didn’t burn down because she engaged the spiritual and nullified it. So temporal measure, we took her to someone house and made some spiritual pronouncements for that house till morning. So that it will not burn down and so we have time to understand what to do about the case. When the morning came what we did was simple. We held a cloth by the four edges and declared it the secret place of the Most High. For it is written, ‘he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty’ [Ps.91:1]. And as a prophetic declaration and a prophetic dramatic display we said she should walk under the cloth. It took her about thirty minutes to walk a very short distance but we waited. When she got into that covering, we sealed it and that was the end of the fire till today. And people accuse me of praying too much? Jesus came to preach the gospel to the poor, the opening of the eyes to the blind. What is the gospel to the blind? Sight! What is the gospel to the captive? Deliverance! Sadly we have people who can see, people who are free but are angry that we are ministering sight to the blind and deliverance to the captives. It is the gospel – deal with it!
Prayer: Father, put Your Spirit upon me anew, that I may rejoice when the blind receive their sight and when the captives are set free, in Jesus Name.
