Address The Source
“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’” Matt.19:4
Don’t you just like David? David shows up on the scene, sees goliath, and asks what are they going to give to the person who takes down this giant? [Please read 1 Sam.17] David was negotiating his reward before he took on the battle. People may say how can he be so selfish? Is he not an Israelite? Can’t he do it for patriotism? David says, ‘No, I see things differently. What am I going to get if I kill this giant?’ David was speaking from a place of knowing God. God said to the Israelites, “I have not called you to seek me in vain”. That’s so profound! So perhaps the thought has crossed your mind that your service to God is a waste of your time. I am here to tell you it is not. Or you are one of those who say just give God and do not worry. It’s okay to give God and not worry. But guess what? God will give you back and when He gives you back, He is going to give you much more because that is how God is. He is not a debtor to anyone. So let that sink in and stir up expectation in you.
The question on marriage. “Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: “Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?” Matt.19:3. Back in the days of Moses, a man gets married and after a few days says he doesn’t like the woman anymore, or that she has body odor, or cannot cook a particular meal he likes. Such men would begin to trouble Moses until he allowed them to divorce their wives – give her a bill of divorcement for all kinds of flimsy reasons. Jesus said, ‘Moses allowed you because of the hardness of your heart but I am telling you in the beginning it was not so’. Once you’re married, you’re married. The Bible did not say that for this reason shall a man be joined to his wives. One-man one-wife. Jesus was answering deep-rooted questions. He says in the beginning God made them male and female; that throws out the issue of homosexuality completely. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Jesus went to the core and answered the questions that people are still asking in 2015. Call a spade a spade. Homosexuality is a sin, adultery is a sin, lying is a sin; sin is sin. So are we saying that we hate homosexuals? Of course not! Do you hate adulterers or liars? Of course not; but it doesn’t make it right. Do you understand? If you have a problem, seek for help. Don’t create an institution around it. That would amount to giving the problem a place to take even deeper roots. Sin is sin.
Prayer: Jesus, I thank You for providing me with answers to every question I will ever encounter ahead of time. Thank You Lord for Your Spirit and Your Word, in Jesus Name.
