The Life?

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” Matt.6:25.

Many of us are always chasing ‘the life’. We call it many things; some people call it ‘to arrive’. So we spend a lot of our time doing the things we think will lead to us ‘arriving’. Some people refer to chasing ‘the life’ as ‘wake up’. There are different expressions but the bottom line is a lot of people are chasing what they consider as ‘the life’. Imagine visiting your friend and you see his neighbor cruising in a boat. And you are blown away because that is ‘the life’. So you start to imagine what your life would be like if you had that boat. Sometimes it is our bosses at work; he comes in late and leaves before everybody else. Even at work when you catch a glimpse of his computer, he is playing solitaire. He or she is doing nothing while you are working your head off. You look at that boss and you say that is ‘the life’, small work-big pay. For some of us, we look at some lady who comes to church with her handsome husband and you tell yourself, someday I too will come to church with my tall dark and handsome – that is ‘the life’. There is always something that we are chasing after and many of us go through life without truly living. We will discover very quickly that the things we are chasing as ‘the life’ are not life. Think about it, you must have gotten the things you were chasing five years ago, right? Has it given you life? Of course not and it is because we are chasing the wrong things. If you continue chasing those things, you will realize that you are actually not getting the life you bargained for. God wants you and I to realize what it really means to be alive because a lot of people just exist without being alive. In the words of this popular actor, Mel Gibson, “everyone dies but not everyone truly lives”. Everyone will die but not everyone would have lived. So the question to you is: are you just existing? It is my prayer that today you will truly come alive. And for those who have been alive you will come alive on a higher level.

So to truly live do we just need more money, a bigger house, more boats, more cars, the promotion, and the life partner? Is that life? There was this young man who was being counseled by his Pastor to slow down because he had major health issues. It will shock you that this man said he tries to rest but as soon as the thought crosses his mind that someone else could be richer than him, he jumps up and begins to work. Let me tell you something, there will always be someone richer than you and there will also be somebody poorer than you too.

Prayer: Jesus, the value of my life is in You. Help me make You my sole pursuit every hour, in Jesus Name.
