Die To Self II

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too” Phil.2:3-4.

Habits could be destructive or totally harmless; but is your habit something that has taken the place of God, howbeit harmless? Question 2: is there something that God wants me to start doing? At the place of the altar, God is going to challenge your spirituality. Take for instance; you have been praying for two minutes everyday, God may want to challenge you to take it up a notch. Or it could be someone that God would want you to meet his or her need. It could be anything but the Holy Spirit will prompt you. Question 3: is there something that God wants me to be consistent with? Question 4: is there someone that God wants me to forgive? Even as you are reading this today, I am asking you, is there someone that God wants you to forgive? I know that when you hear this question, the first thing that rushes to your mind is what the person did. What they did does not matter, what matters is, is there someone that God wants you to forgive? Question 5: is there a step of faith that God wants me to take? You have gotten cozy in your safe zone but God wants you to take a step of faith. Is there a sacrificial step that God wants you to take? Well, I am here to tell you that there is. I am certain you will have to deal with some if not all of these questions at the place of the altar and it will increase your spirituality.

The altar is a place of Gratitude. In God’s Favorite House, the church where I Pastor, we are building an altar to God every first Sunday of the month. We call it our thanksgiving Sunday and it is an altar of gratitude. We deliberately set aside a day where we come before God just to say ‘thank You’. We give thanks everyday, but we also specially set aside one day to give thanks to God. Why? Because gratitude can begin with your heart but gratitude is not complete if it is not expressed. Take your relationship with your spouse for instance, you are grateful for what he or she has done but you never say it. Then eventually, things really go bad. You hear people say, but you know I am grateful even if I don’t say it. Or God sees my heart; I love you, even though I don’t say it. It is not very useful if it is not expressed. At the office, your colleague helps you sort things out, express gratitude. As you begin to set up the altars that God wants you to set up, God will respond by fire in Jesus Name. As you go to the altar, the things that are out of alignment will realign, you will remember the things you should never forget and forget the things you should never remember; you will die to yourself and come alive to God, and you will overflow with gratitude.

Prayer: Father, put my life in alignment with You; help me remember the things I should never forget and forget the things I should never remember; help me die to myself and come alive to God, and overflow with gratitude, in Jesus Name
