How To… I

“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5.

Paul says to us to gain victory over the enemy you must do three things. The first thing you do is Put to death; the second thing you do is Put off; then the third thing you do you is Put on. The King James translation for Colossians 3:5 reads, “ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth…”. The Amplified translation of Colossians 3:5 reads, “So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]…” One of the popular brands has this slogan just do it. You hear people advising others, it is your life so if it feels good do it, or just do what makes you feel good as long as you are not hurting anybody. That is what animals do and you are not an animal. You cannot just do it. And Paul is saying mortify, put to death, you kill such desires. Charles Spurgeon says, “Beware of no man more than of yourself; we carry our worst enemies within us”. If you will fear any man the man you should fear is yourself. If there is someone that can stop you from reaching your objective or your destiny, it is not the witch in the village. They are too small, they are under your feet. Can’t you see that you are seated with Christ in heavenly places far above principalities and powers? It is not your boss because promotion does not come from the east, or from the west, it comes from God. Your life is not in any mans hands. The only man [person] you should fear is yourself, what you are capable of doing that can destroy you, that is what you should be afraid of.
Let me explain what it is to mortify. To mortify means to kill, to put to death. That is a very hard word. The animal instinct, God says kill. At the end of one of our services, I felt the Holy Spirit saying to me that there was someone on the service, a female, who had made her dog have sexual encounters with her. I was surprised at the leading but I made the call and the lady came to see me after service. Such things just have me puzzled, how do people even think of such things? Of course Jesus broke the power and she should be serving God now. The key thing is there are some base animal instinct that the enemy wants to reduce you to but God says kill. God did not say pamper, God did not say subdue, God did not say educate. Some of us think that we can educate our instincts. God said kill. “So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]…” Col.3:5 [AMP].
