It Has To Be Daily

Think about (set your affection on) the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God” Col.3:2-3 [emphasis added]

In Colossians 1, Paul focuses on the Supremacy of Christ and establishing that Jesus existed before the world was created. In Colossians 2, Paul focuses on victory over external dangers, external influences, philosophies, and the teachings of men. But in Colossians 3 Paul focuses on victory over and all that but in chapter 3 Paul is focusing on victory over internal danger as Christians. Paul moved from just establishing the Supremacy of Christ, to preventing us from lies without, then to empowering us to have victory from within. Our new life in Christ requires on-going development. As you have given your life to Jesus you have to follow Jesus and you follow Jesus everyday. Our new life in Christ requires on-going development but sometimes this is where a lot of people have challenges. And it is because they rather just give their lives to Jesus on Sunday and continue business as usual on Monday. But that is not what God wants, God wants you to follow Jesus on Monday, on Tuesday, on Wednesday, on Thursday, on Friday, on Saturday, and even on Sunday. If you draw an analogy from someone that is embarking on physical development, you can immediately see that consistency is a challenge. Ask anyone that has lost a significant amount of weight or anyone that is building muscle, they have to go to the gym everyday. If you want to build muscle and you hit the gym once in a month or only on Sundays what do you think will happen? You want to loose weight and you go to the gym only on Mondays and spend the rest of the week having a feast, what do you think will happen? I am more of a sports person, no offence to gym lovers but I prefer to score a goal and celebrate, win a match or lose a match, and re-strategize to win a match. But one day I decided to go to the gym to lift some weight because the Tennis court was occupied. The instructor loaded on the weight but I could not lift it and eventually after reducing the weight considerably, I was able to do some bench presses. I probably over did it because I wanted to prove to the instructor that I could. The following day I was in serious pain and even though I was asked to come back, I did not go back immediately. The key thing here is consistence can be difficult in physical things and in spiritual things it is not different. If you want to build spiritual muscles, you have to be consistent with Christ, you have to be consistent in prayer, you have to be consistent in church. The first time you carry the weight your muscle will ache but keep pumping it.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please grow me in consistency in spiritual things, in Jesus Name.
