Love is … V
“Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love” 1 Cor.13:13
Back in the day, we knew this newly married couple and for some strange reason the man had some serious financial problems. It was so serious that they were struggling to eat. The lady came from a very rich family and after a few months she packed up her things and left. She told the man that when he is ready to marry a wife, he should meet her in her father’s house. And the man almost committed suicide. As his house fellowship leaders, we stood by him, encouraged him and prayed with him. His wife left because she did not understand that love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and love always endures.
Some people are wondering why they are not yet married; perhaps it is because God wants you to understand that love always endures. Are you ready? Years passed and the man’s fortune turned around. He married another wife and started a new family. Some people will question his actions. I do not judge him, when we get to heaven we will find out. The first wife would wish she had stayed but she did not because she did not have love. Love stays through thick and thin – that is love.
There are two keys to unleash love. The first key is “…but have not love – God’s love in me, I gain nothing “ 1Cor.13:3 [emphasis added]. God’s love in your heart is the key. How do you know that you have God’s love? Jesus says as many as received Him, He gave power to become the sons of God. When you get saved, God Himself dwells in you. And His love is shared abroad your heart by the power of the Holy Spirit. The second key is, “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things” 1 Cor.13:11 [emphasis added].
The key is growing up. God wants us to grow up and put away childish things. The Bible did not say when I grew up childish things left me. Childish things do not leave, you put them away. The reason why some people remain immature emotionally, physically, and spiritually is because they are still childish. Put away childish things. It is childish to be impatient, to be unkind, to be jealous, to be proud and boastful, to be rude, to insist on your own way and be self-seeking, to be irritable, to keep record of wrong, to rejoice in iniquity and injustice, and it is childish to give up. Every man knows it is easier to be a boy, not responsible for anything, than a man. But when you become a man, you have to be responsible. God wants His love in your heart to manifest and show forth in your horizontal relationships.
Prayer [song]: Change my heart oh God, make it ever true. Change my heart oh God, may I be like You. You are the potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me, this is what I pray. Amen!
