Your Territory
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith…” 1 Pet.5:8-9 [emphasis added]
God’s instructions to us today are stay alert and stand firm. Every top military general focuses not only on success but also on survival. Success is one thing but survival is another. It is one thing to gain grounds but maintaining grounds is another thing all together. Once you have achieved an objective, spend the rest of your energy defending the territory. The objective could be getting a job. Once you achieve the objective, guess what? There are people hoping you will not show up so that they can take that job. But they will hope in vain, in Jesus Name.
You have to maintain the territory. The objective could be marriage. The fact that you have achieved the objective and married the lady does not stop other men from admiring her and making advances. So you need to protect your territory. You need to know that other little Mrs. Potiphars are eyeing your man so protect your territory. The objective could be weight loss, you have achieved a major milestone. You need to protect that territory otherwise you can lose it easily. Every ground you gain, in every area of your life, needs to be protected.
The Principle of Security: Never permit the enemy to acquire an unexpected advantage. Cover your bases. Great military generals never allow themselves to get complacent. They take nothing for granted. In 1579, the battle of Quebec in Canada North America, the French had control of the fortress of Quebec and for a hundred and fifty years they controlled the territory from there. But the French did not cover their rear because behind the fort of Quebec was a mountain that was too steep for any army to climb. But an Indian native went to the British and offered to take them through a path on the same mountain. And the British general marched his entire army.
The French had no knowledge of it. In the morning they struck the French from behind and in ten minutes the two French generals were killed. The French army was in disarray and an advantage of a hundred and fifty years was lost in ten minutes because they did not cover their bases. What are you taking for granted in your marriage, in your business, or in your health? Always protect your flanks.
Prayer: Father, empower me to stay alert, stand firm and protect every ground I have gained by the Power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus Name.
