Only One

“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?” Lu.9:25

But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”  But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!  There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Lu.10:40-42 [emphasis added]. When you discover and make your relationship with Jesus the center of your life, then you would have set yourself up for a stress free life. Before you take that job ask how it will impact on your relationship with Jesus. Before you relocate in search of greener pastures, you need to evaluate how it will impact on your relationship with Jesus.

So you need to hands off and cut off anything that does not help your relationship with Jesus. I have seen people take jobs that took them out of their place in God. And I have seen their souls become famished and some practically backslide. And if you check, many of them do not enjoy their ‘new life’. Is anything worth more than your soul?

I pray that God will satisfy you with long life, in Jesus Name. However, if you had just three months to live, how would you spend your time? Think about it. Will the promotion that you are thinking of compromising for, matter? Will the business you are foregoing your wife and children for, still be so important? Will all the things you are sacrificing on the altar of success count? It would not.

So what are the things you would really want to spend your time doing? Those are the things that you should really be doing. Would you want to get closer to God? I know I would. You would want to make peace with people. You would want to spend time with your spouse and apologize for not loving him or her more. You would want to say to your children I should have paid more attention to you. The truth is that is how you should be living now. That is what cuts off stress. That is what simplifies your life. That is what makes you powerful, unstoppable, and indestructible.

Prayer: Father, help me simplify my life and live a life that counts each day, in Jesus Name.
