How great God is!  His power is absolute!  His understanding is unlimited.”  Psalm 147:5 [LB, emphasis added]

As much as God loved David, he was not shielded from the troubles of life. He still had to fight battles. David still had to overcome his enemies, people that hated him and people that wanted him dead. As much as God loved David, David still had questions that he needed God to answer. One thing you will see consistently in the Book of Psalms is, David knew how to think clearly through tough times and at the end, his joy was  restored. We are going to learn from David how to think clearly through problems.

#1: When Your Situation Looks DEFEATING Think About The Greatness of God. The direction your thoughts go is the direction your life will go. So when your situation looks defeating, do not worry about what your situation looks like. Instead, take hold of your thoughts, your worldview, and your perspective. When the situation looks defeating, think about the greatness of God. David was a master at this. It is possible to run out of energy and get trapped by the feeling of giving up.

Sometimes, we feel that we have tried everything and nothing has happened. I know that feeling and it is a feeling of hopelessness that causes us to question why we should keep trying. I have written these exams repeatedly, why should I keep trying? I have tried so hard in marriage and it is not getting better, why should I keep trying? I have tried so hard to submit to this man but it is not working, how do I keep going? I have tried to love this wife but she is unlovable, how do I keep going? I have tried to make this child follow Jesus but he insists on his own way, how do I keep up? Whenever you feel defeated, you need to refocus on God’s power and the greatness of God. David did this repeatedly and that is why he was so triumphant. Stop focusing on the problem, start focusing on God’s power. Stop focusing on your spouse and start focusing on your awesome God that can make water come out of a rock.

Prayer [song]: When I look into Your Holiness. When I gaze into Your loveliness. When all the things that surround me become shadows in the light of You. I worship You (2x), the reason I live is to worship You… Amen!
