Magnify Him

“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord…  Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Wait for the Lord.”  Psalm 27:13-14 [NAS, emphasis added]

When Your Situation Looks DEPRESSING, Think About The Goodness of God. Depression is a signal that our focus is on the wrong things. And because we exaggerate and amplify negative things, it drives us into depression. If you do not deal with things like negative exaggeration, make no mistake, it will drive you into depression. For instance, someone makes a mistake and then concludes that he or she is a failure because of that mistake. Depending on how much the person exaggerates the situation, people actually begin to beat themselves down with statements like you are a failure, you cannot really get anything right. You are not a failure because you made a mistake. It is just a mistake. Say to yourself, it is just a mistake, move forward.

You have a delay in certain areas or things are wrong in certain areas, then you conclude that everything is wrong. You conclude that it is a family trend and you need ‘deliverance’. Exaggeration has the effect it has because what is being exaggerated actually exists. If what is being exaggerated does not exist, it loses its power. But the problem we blow out of proportion [everybody criticizes me, nobody likes me] is an exaggerated position compared to what actually is.

What if the delay in that area is because God wants to take you through a test aimed at building you so that you can come up on top? For some people, when an ordinary bat flies into their room they conclude that their enemies have located them. The enemy wants to make us perplexed, he tries to bamboozle us so that we can exaggerate our position and become depressed. God is saying to you today, when your situation looks depressing, think about the goodness of God!

The summation is to enlarge your perspective of God and focus on God’s goodness. Elijah in speaking to Gehazi put it this way, there are more with us than there are against us. David says, “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord…  Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Wait for the Lord.” Be strong; let your heart take courage because you will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.

Prayer: You are God that lifts everybody that is bowed down, You are a good God and Your goodness does not expire or diminish, in Jesus Name.
