Budget!

“...Stupid people spend their money as fast as they get itPr. 21:20 [GN]

Every advert is channeled at impulsive buying. Buy now, think later. Do not get me wrong; this is not a campaign against buying things. Everyone has legitimate needs which should be addressed but do not shop impulsively. I sent some phone credit to my wife as a good husband and she loaded it. Then the network multiplied what she loaded by four. And she was excited about the free talk time. I told her the network’s goal was to lure her. She did not agree with me because she thought the talk time was a lot and so it would last long. Guess what? By the next day, she had finished the talk time plus the extra and she wanted more. But I refused to send more.

They know that if they can make you get  used to talking a lot, you would be hooked. My wife said to me that the road to poverty is lined with discounts. You will find yourself buying the things you ordinarily would not because it carries a tag of fifty percent discount. They are luring you to buy it because that tag carries a silent message of increased prices in days to come, so hurry up and buy now. It is a lie.

When we left school, a friend of mine said he was going to look for a village girl to marry. That move kind of left me puzzled for a while until I stumbled upon a statistic. It stated that the more educated human beings are, the more impulsively they spend. When I read this I remembered my friend. I know this will not go down well with educated women. But the reason I am sharing this is simple; if you know that you have a propensity for something that will keep you financially bound, you deliver yourself.

For some women, this is a license to keep running riot. But what I am saying is cut impulsive spending.  It is a decision away – budget. “Financial freedom is NOT determined by how much you make but by how you spend it!” That is Solomon’s advice from Proverbs 21:5. And if Solomon advises you about money you listen. So you need to plan! Budget! God has an IQ test, a way to determine how intelligent we are. I will show you. “...Stupid people spend their money as fast as they get it”.

Prayer: Father, even as I obey and plan my spending, empower me to retain this habit, in Jesus Name.
